The Lexilogia tool for acquiring advanced reading and spelling skills consists of three distinct courses,

During these three courses, the student follows the flow of each lesson and at the end achieves the desired level and moves on to the next course.

It is essential to realize that phonological and morphological awareness can be continuously improved through education. Each course of Lexilogia is structured in such a way to trigger and develop phonological and morphological awareness. It is widely accepted that these are the most important underlying cognitive processes that lead to proficiency in reading and spelling skills.

In summary, each of the 3 courses -Lexilogia 1, Lexilogia 2, Lexilogia 3- addresses a group with a specific level of skills, while the completion of all three courses results in advanced reading and spelling skills.

Lexilogia 1

In Lexilogia 1 children of preschool age learn through playful interaction how to recognize sounds and connect them with corresponding written symbols.

This course focuses on the internalization of the basic phonological awareness of the Greek language.

How it works

Lexilogia 1 consists of exercises in a strict order with built-in vocal instructions that are easy for children to understand, enabling them to do the exercises without assistance from a tutor. If children need assistance, they simply push the button “show me”. This will produce a solution, which encourages the child to continue. They gradually achieve the first skills necessary for handling 1-syllable units with different kinds of consonant clusters (e.g. σασταστρατσα).

Lexilogia 1 contains 14 lesson blocks, each consisting of several lessons that take approximately 30 minutes, with a small test at the end of each lesson. Spending 10 minutes a day, 5 days a week, this course will take about 9 weeks.

Lexilogia 2

In Lexilogia 2 the student continues the process of merging sounds into simple Greek words. Gradually different consonant clusters are introduced, deepening phonological awareness until upon completion of the course, an advanced and automated level of phonological awareness of the Greek language is reached.

This course focuses on the internalization of the advanced phonological awareness of the Greek language.

How it works

In the course Lexilogia 2 students gradually master all the skills necessary for handling 2 and 3-syllable words with different kinds of consonant clusters (e.g. σά-κος, στά-λα, στρα-τός, τσά-ντα). In addition the student is invited to participate in a flash-word reading module, where words will flash up progressively faster on the screen.

Lexilogia 2 consists of 16 lesson blocks in total, with 8 blocks focusing on writing skills and reading accuracy and 8 blocks focusing on accelarating the speed of reading. Each lesson block takes about 45 minutes and contains several exercises culminating in a small test. Spending 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week, this course will take about 10 weeks.

Lexilogia 3

At the level of Lexilogia 3 the student has obtained phonological awareness and is ready to proceed to the last and more completed stage, the morphological awareness, the understanding of complex word structures. With the completion of this stage, the student is capable of handling reading and spelling tasks at a proficient level.

This course focuses on the internalization of the morphological awareness of the Greek language.

In Lexilogia 3, the student achieves a highly automated level of understanding the structure of the Greek word, through enjoyable exercises with both audio and visual feedback. First students gradually master all the skills necessary for handling any kind of word string (e.g. δικ-άζ-ω, κατα-δικ-άζ-ω, δι-εκ-δίκ-ησ-η, ά-δικ-ος), then they are introduced to spelling difficulties in stems (e.g. δι-οίκ-ησ-η, δια-τύπ-ωσ-η) and verb suffixes (e.g. λερ-ω-θείτε, λερ-ώ-θηκε).

Lexilogia 3 consists of 52 lesson blocks. Each lesson block takes about 30 minutes and contains several exercises culminating in a test. Spending 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week, this course will take about 6 to 8 months.
